The homeowners desired a significant increase in living space, specifically wanting a large, versatile area that combined kitchen, dining, and relaxed seating zones. The design needed to integrate a substantial extension with the existing two-storey brick house seamlessly. Balancing the open-plan concept with the need for defined functional zones, while also creating visual interest through varying rooflines and ceiling heights, was a central part of the architectural task.
Kiyani Architectural Design conceived a multi-part rear extension. A flat-roof element with generous rooflights houses the modern kitchen area, flowing directly into the dining space facilitated by large bi-fold doors. Adjacent to this, a dramatic gabled section with a vaulted ceiling and exposed structural elements defines the main living zone, also featuring extensive glazing opening onto the garden. Internally, the open space is subtly zoned through layout, furniture placement, and features like the large kitchen island. Crittall-style internal doors add a touch of contemporary industrial chic while allowing light to penetrate further into the home.
